Body Image

“My body is my home, and I will celebrate it.” - Marisa Donnelly

Body image encompasses the way we perceive, think and feel about our bodies.  This can include attitudes, beliefs, and emotions about appearance, weight, and shape.  Many factors influence how we think about bodies including societal standards, culture, family upbringing, the media, and personal experiences.  Sometimes, our body image is more negative which can lead to low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and potentially lead to an eating disorder.

Therapy can be a great place to assist in exploring your body image history and working through negative beliefs.  Specifically, EMDR can be a great tool to reprocess negative beliefs, experiences, and emotions associated with negative body image.

At Denver Wellness Counseling, we work with you to understand the root causes of symptoms and provide a therapeutic relationship that is a safe place to start healing your body image.
