Women-Focused Therapy

The world of today has unsurmountable (and often conflicting) expectations for the modern-day woman. This can easily lead to anxiety, overwhelm, defeating comparisons between self and others, tendency towards dissociation (scrolling on screens, mindless online shopping, etc), chronic feels of less-than, resentment, loss of purpose, and relationship struggles.

Additionally, woman often find themselves carrying the “emotional load” of family life, defined as holding the role of household manager and responsibility for delegating tasks (perceived nagging) if she desires an equitable sharing of daily tasks or a brief time to care for herself.   Women can often feel as though life is a checklist of responsibilities and even “self-care” is part of that list where exercise is prioritized over creativity and enhancing life energy.

Often times women will come to therapy with a sense that they are missing something, yet feel guilty due to being raised in a culture that messages that rest is weak and women should be happy with what they have (no complaining!).   Therapy for women can be an important journey of connecting with their CORE self, setting boundaries, releasing misplaced guilt, and healing trauma-related material that disconnects them from their innate worth.

Women-focused therapy is often focused on:

  • Managing and redistributing emotional load – unequal division of mental/emotional load of family life, as well as difficulty meeting intense pressures of work/life/parenting balance

  • Perinatal issues or infertility

  • Self-esteem and body image issues

  • Relational issues or relational trauma

  • Finding a sense of purpose/meaning

  • Depression, mood swings
