Frequently Asked Questions

  • Finding a great therapist isn’t easy, but at Denver Wellness Counseling we are committed to matching you with the right therapist. We find that we can meet the needs of most people who call, but in the off chance that we’re not the right fit we are happy to help make referrals to any of the professional agencies or individuals we know through our years of service.

Once you reach out to Denver Wellness Counseling and provide us with a few sentences about your goals, we carefully consider your needs with our therapist’s expertise to connect you with the therapist here best suited to your needs. This connection typically happens via email so you can easily coordinate a time for the free, 15 minute phone consultation.

We also offer a free, 15 minute phone consultation to examine and adjust therapist fit as needed. We can get a lot done in 15 minutes. Here is the typical outline of the phone consultation:

    • Share with the therapist – what is bringing you to therapy at this time in your life

    • Share with therapist – what past therapy you’ve tried. What worked, what didn’t

    • Learn from therapist – our therapy approach in general and more specifically to your goals

    • Learn from therapist – logistic information such as cost, office information, etc.

    • Learn from therapist – potential scope of your work together, including recommended frequency, length of service, and timeline of service.

  • Here at Denver Wellness Counseling, our therapists are out-of-network for private insurance and PPO plans. Many private practice providers here in Colorado choose to be out-of-network, therefore options in-network can be limited or have long waitlists. Some of the more common reasons for private practice therapists to be out-of-network in Colorado include:

    • Confidentiality/Privacy: Insurance often requires a diagnosis to be included in your permeant medical record. A diagnosis is not required in private practice, instead treatment is symptom driven.

    • More control over your therapy journey: At Denver Wellness Counseling, you and your therapist will determine modality, length, goals, and frequency of treatment. In-network therapy providers are often guided by what insurance deems medically necessary or appropriate solely based on diagnosis.

    • Therapist specialization: Many therapists who specialize in a specific modality may choose to be out of network for a variety of reasons. Occasionally a specialized modality will not be supported or recognized by the medical model of care. Often times, specialized training means that more of the therapist’s time is focused on advanced training and development as opposed to billing/negotiating with insurance providers.

A note about Medicaid: Denver Wellness Counseling is not credentialed with Medicaid, and therefore cannot accept Medicaid clients for private pay services.

HSA (Health Savings Account) and FSA (Flexible Spending Account) cards can be accepted at Denver Wellness Counseling for services. HSA and FSA funds can be helpful if your insurance will not reimburse for out-of-network services or does not cover mental health services. Always check with your account administrator to ensure eligibility. Please note, often family-based modalities such as couples counseling or family therapy are not eligible.

    Therapy Reimbursement for Out-Of-Network Therapy:

Upon request here at Denver Wellness Counseling, we provide a SUPERBILL that may be submitted to insurance for some level of personal reimbursement for out-of-network therapy services. A superbill is a paid invoice with important therapy practice information and CPT (insurance) codes. Coverage for out-of-network services vary widely by insurance company and specific plan. Some questions to consider when talking to your insurance provider:

    • What are my out-of-network benefits?

    • Is there a deductible for out-of-network benefits? If so, how much?

    • What are you, the client, financially responsible for?

    • What percentage is covered for out-of-network services?

    • Is there a maximum amount of reimbursement allotted per therapy session?

    • Is there an out-of-pocket maximum?

Our rates vary by provider and service but are about average for private practice in the Denver Metro area. We have three tiers of cost depending on therapist specialty and years of advanced training.

Pre-licensed EMDR Trained professional: $135 per individual session

Licensed and EMDR Trained/Certified: $165 per individual session

EMDR Approved Consultant/Advanced Trainer: $185 per individual session

Family or Couples counseling varies between $185 and $225 based on provider.
