The single most important issue for traumatized people is to find a sense of safety in their own bodies.

— Bessel van der Kolk, MD

As much as life can be beautiful and rewarding, life can throw us curveballs - experiences that are scary, profoundly sad, or emotionally painful. Traumatic events come in all sizes, and can create lasting psychological discomfort. After a traumatic or adverse life event, we may find ourselves "stuck" on the events, replaying the experience over and over in our mind. We may notice increased anxiety and nervousness in general, or related to any reminders of the traumatic event. We may have difficulty sleeping, or moments of panic while we are awake. Following the traumatic event we may feel depressed, or disconnected from our lives and those around us.

There is hope.

At Denver Wellness Counseling, we are experts in helping people heal from the wounds of traumatic events, including childhood abuse, neglect, tragic crisis, and interpersonal violence. Trauma treatment helps individuals overcome the hold that past experiences have over them, leading to an increased sense of safety, self-acceptance, and empowerment to move forward with confidence and peace.

Through years of effective trauma and PTSD counseling, therapists at Denver Wellness Counseling have had the pleasure of observing the resiliency of the human spirit, time and time again. Your life does not need to be defined by it's challenges, instead you can endure, grow, and heal with the help of the right counselor. At Denver Wellness Counseling, we are uniquely trained in effective approaches to trauma and PTSD counseling, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization, and Reprocessing) and TF-CBT (Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) for adolescents.
